Salute to Our Heroes of 9/11

“Salute to Our Heroes of 9/11”

10 year Commemoration

Pepperdine University

August 2011

All Malibu Navy League Members,

On Sunday, September 11, 2011, a decade since the world-changing day when terrorists attacked America, Pepperdine University’s Malibu campus will host a dramatic commemoration for the victims and heroes of 9/11. The 4 p.m. event in Alumni Park, amid 2,976 American and international flags displayed annually each September, will pay tribute to all who lost their lives.

Beginning at 11a.m., 35 representatives from the Malibu and Pepperdine communities will read aloud the names of victims who perished during the 9/11 tragedy. A procession of fire and sheriff’s personnel, led by bagpipers, will then open the 4 p.m. program. A military flyover will close the ceremony.

Governor Jerry Brown has been invited to speak. Confirmed guests include L.A. County Third District Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and Deena Burnett Bailey, widow of Pepperdine MBA graduate Tom Burnett, who was among the “Let’s roll” leaders on Flight 93. Invited are Malibu city officials, Malibu Navy League Members, local residents and staff from the Pepperdine community.

The day’s schedule is enclosed for you. Parking is limited – please car pool. We look forward to sharing Pepperdine’s “Salute to Our Heroes of 9/11” with the community.
